Ace & Tate

Creative engineering and retail furniture production

For the new Ace & Tate store in Berlin, PRDCT WRKS produced the complete bespoke furniture package – translating a minimal design concept into buildable, production-ready fixtures.

Starting from a single rendering, we developed the technical drawings, sourced and tested materials, and engineered fixtures that integrate seamlessly with the building structure. The store marks a pilot for Ace & Tate’s future retail rollout.

Project context

Ace & Tate developed a new store concept for its location at Akazienstraße 22 in Berlin, with a brief centred on a quiet, unhurried setting. The interior needed to feel clear and comfortable, supporting personal connection between staff and customers. As a pilot store, the concept also had to set a direction that could carry the brand’s future retail rollout.

PRDCT WRKS was asked by sistercompany PRJCT WRKS to join the development of the new concept and was responsible for the production of all furniture.

The challenge

The starting point was a rendering made by the architect. The design intent was clear, but there were no technical drawings and no final material specifications yet. This is where our collaboration with architects matters most: making sure that what leaves the workshop matches the image the architect had in mind.

The most demanding constraint came from the integration with the building itself. Each fixture weighed around 100 kg and had to fit into a curved wall. Production, construction and installation had to align exactly, because there was no room for adjustment on site.

Our approach

We applied what we call creative engineering: being involved early by the designer or architect, in an advisory role. Because we joined during the development of the concept, key decisions on materials, construction and detailing could be made while the design was still taking shape – choices that fit the budget and the design, instead of compromising one for the other.

Working alongside the architect, we translated the concept into a production-ready furniture package, developing technical drawings for every piece and reviewing each detail for buildability. Material selection followed the same logic: most materials were straightforward, but several specific elements required extensive sourcing and sample testing before the look and feel matched the original renders.

Throughout the project we worked closely with the contractor to align the furniture with the building works. Because the curved wall offered no tolerance, dimensional accuracy in production was decisive — our workshops produced each fixture exactly to the millimetre, allowing the installation team to fit the elements seamlessly into the structure.

The result

The completed store combines bespoke fixtures with a coherent spatial experience — geometry, composition and atmosphere in balance, exactly as the architect intended. The furniture is an integral part of the architecture rather than an addition to it.

The Berlin store now serves as the pilot for Ace & Tate’s wider retail rollout, with a furniture package that is engineered, documented and ready for serial production across future locations.
